About the Early Years Foundation Stage
Sunflowers Nursery and the Reception class are together known as the Foundation Stage, and they are based in a purpose-built building on the school site.
Schools and early years providers have to follow a structure of learning, development and care for children from birth to five years old called the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). The EYFS ensures that children learn through play and that providers work closely with parents to keep them up to date on their child’s progress.
Children work towards Early Learning Goals as laid out in the Department for Education’s statutory framework, details of which can be found in the Curriculum section above.
Through our play-based curriculum built around the EYFS framework, we not only provide high quality childcare, but also equip children with the skills they need for the next stage in their education. Our ongoing monitoring and assessment mean we know our children well and can identify any problems at an early stage.
