General information (school times/safety)
School Times
Infants - 08.55am to 12.15pm. LUNCH 1.30pm to 3.15pm
Juniors - 08.50am to 12.30pm. LUNCH 1.30pm to 3.20pm
Children are allowed into the classroom from 08.45am. Classroom doors are locked before this time for security reasons. Reception parents may accompany their children into the classroom. We realise that Year 1 parents will want to do this until children have settled and anticipate that this will happen by Christmas. Will Year 2 parents please say goodbye to their children outside so that they can become independant. Teachers on duty supervise any children who want to stay outside. We prefer that you do not wait with children in the playground st this makes it difficult for teachers to carry out their supervisory duties properly. There is no teacher in the playground before 8.40am and parents are responsible for the children before that time. We realise that some children who travel by bus may be here earlier and members of staff are accessible in case of emergency. Children are allowed inside if it is raining, but should not arrive at school before 8.45am (when they should go straight to their classrooms). Bus children should go to the hall when they arrive if the weather is bad.
Entrances and Exits
Children should use the outside classroom doors in the main block and the cloakroom doors in the new block. At the end of the day please wait outside the classrooms or in the playground. Children in the new block will leave via the fire doors to avoid congestion in the cloakrooms. Please emphasise to your child that, if the usual person is not there to meet them, they must go to the office and wait there. Staff can then take appropriate action. If you are late, children will wait by the office for you.
Safety
The governors have drawn up a road safety policy in accordance with LEA guideline. We are very concerned for the safety of children arriving at and leaving the school. We would ask you to observe the following rules:-
- Please do not park on the yellow zig zags
- Please do not draw up to allow a child to alight at the school gates
- Please do not park on the private grounds of Orchard Blythe
- Please do not block our neighbours drives
- Please do not park in Hudson Avenue or Wall Avenue, blocking garages, where you might upset our elderly neighbours
- Please do not park in our school car park at the beginning and the end of the school day
- Please note that the dropping off zone is for dropping children off at the beginning of the day only and not for parking
- Please do not overtake other cars in the car park
- Please make children get out of the car on the passenger side
- Please do use the nearby car parks and walk the short distance to school - it does children good to be reminded that they have legs!
We have better dropping off facilities than most schools, but the school gates will be closed should there be any abuse of them. The bottom gate will be locked soon after 9.00am in an effort to curtail vandalism to staff cars.
We have a lollipop lady in Wingfield Road -
please encourage the children to use this facility so that we don't lose it.
Appointments
Children are not allowed to leave the premises on their own during the day. We ask you to notify the class teacher / office if you intend to collect your children during the day. Please call at the office and the office staff will send for your child - this keeps disruption to a minimum. The same procedure is necessary on your return (for security purposes).
Protection of Children from Abuse
The governors and staff of the school give paramount importance to guarding against the possibility of physical, sexual or emotional abuse of the children in their care. All paid staff are already subject to a police check on appointment.
In issues of child protection, should there be even the slightest suspicion of any kind of abuse, we may refer to other agencies, without speaking to the parents first. This is a legal requirement and there are set LEA policies to follow. We are sure you would prefer us to err on the side of caution - better to be wrong than to take no action and risk harm to a child.
