Learning power skills
We want to encourage our pupils to take responsibility for their own learning and behaviour and to become independent learners by concentrating on building the following skills:
Absorption – completely concentrate.
Managing distractions – Take action to stop yourself from being distracted.
Noticing – look very carefully.
Perseverance – keep trying.
Questioning – Ask yourself and others to find out more and improve.
Making links – Link what you already know to other information.
Imagining – I wonder if...?
Reasoning – Consider if it is sensible and argue the idea.
Capitalising – Use everything around you (including people).
Planning – Think about what you are aiming to do and how.
Revising – Be flexible and change as new ideas emerge.
Distilling – Pull out the main parts to move you forward.
Meta-learning – Know how you learn best.
Interdependence – Know when to learn on your own or with others.
Collaboration – Work well together.
Empathy and Listening – Try to understand what they are really saying.
Imitation – use methods and ideas from others.
